About Me
This is the traditional about me section that I see so many other people include on their own dot coms. First things first.. the most FAQs. (If you have or have ever considered asking me these questions don’t fret, you’re normal. If you ever see another tall human being, wait to ask these questions until the most opportune moment… which may never come).
- The first question I always get, almost without fail, is the cliche “How tall are you?” (depending on how the poor soul asks it, this either pisses me off or makes my day). Most people ask this question because they’ve noticed my one shining characteristic.
Answer: I’m 6′ 10″ or 5′ 22″ whichever suits the occasion. (Creative ways to answer this question are welcomed, send them to me here). - The first question is usually followed by a sigh or a hiss and with a hand over the mouth a “Reallllly? WOW you’re tall! ”
Answer: Yup, I’m glad you noticed, because I sure didn’t Captain Obvious. And these aren’t stilts in case you were wondering. Most of the time I’m polite. DYK that most people either grossly underestimate or overestimate my height? I’ll never know why. I’m either 6′5″ or 7′2″ (I’ve only had two people ever guess my height correctly) - Shortly thereafter.. “You must play basketball!”
Answer: Yup, I DO play basketball thankfully enough. Just so you know, if I didn’t play basketball, this question could only be an insult. Luckily I’m guilty as charged. - Did you play in high school? College? Who’d you play for?
Answer: Ouch, that one hits a sore spot. I played for BYU for one year. Injuries… - Oh, are your parents tall?
Answer: Not tall enough to make people gasp for air and crane their neck. Chiropractors love me. My parents are 6′ 3″ and 5′ 10″ (Both my grandpas were way over six feet though. That’s likely where I get my height). - Wow, it must be difficult to find clothes to wear.
Answer: Well, no. It actually isn’t. Limited selections in most places but I find ‘em easy enough. A plug for tall people stores: tall shirts = Banana Republic and Eddie Bauer. Tall jeans = Buckle. I wear size 13 shoes, I find those everywhere. And yes, people really do ask me these questions all the time. - (If anyone ever asks THE question, I ignore them completely and try not to permanently consider them to be complete and utter ignoramuses. THE question, which can’t even effectively solicit a just answer, may have a little something to do with the weather).
If it happens that we have a conversation beyond the usual height issues, you’d probably ask me where I’m from. I’d say “the western United States.” My family moved a lot—no, not military—just moved a lot. I’m a cultural mut in that sense. I spent most of the first ten years of my life in or around Auburn, Washington. The next 16 were spent back and forth between Mesa and Gilbert, Arizona and Utah (West Valley City, Kearns, Taylorsville, Salt Lake, and Provo). Though I don’t have any “roots” to speak of, I know a lot of people from a lot of places for which I am grateful. I currently live in the happy valley college town of Provo, Utah. Why? It just so happens that Utah County has the best economy in the nation for start up businesses and a blue ribbon trout stream is just minutes away.
I graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in American Studies. To answer your next question which is inevitably “Oh really.. what are you going to do with that?” Absolutely nothing. In my mind, you should study something you’re passionate about and that you enjoy regardless of the monetary rewards or career potential. Why torture yourself through school or life for that matter? Find what you love or are at least interested in, do it well, and the money will follow. I’ve created my own jobs.
I’m the third of four children. Two older sisters, all married with tons of children. I adore my nieces and nephews. My little brother is 6′ 5″. We are very close. My parents just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. I’m all about family..
In my spare time I enjoy eliteist sports and recreational activities like cricket and curling.. ha! I mean golf and fly fishing. I’ve played sports all my life and find great satisfaction in playing and watching them. I frequent our of doors activities such as backpacking, hiking, camping, cow-tipping… I enjoy writing about every stuff and dreaming of my first #1 New York Times Best-seller… might be dreaming for a very long time… Religion is my interest of choice, followed closely by myriads of other things that don’t include politics.
