First of all, you are an amazing writer! Secondly, I understand completely the dilemma that goes on in the mind when you see a homeless person. Our Christ like nature wants to reach out to each one and help them back on their feet, give them a little of what we are so blessed with, monetarily and spiritually. However our mind starts to race as to whether or not giving them money will help them get back on their feet or just back on their feet to the closest liquor store. However, I totally agree with the previous comments, it is not our place to judge, we do what we can to help and then hopefully that person will make the right choices. One idea is to hand them a pass along card in combination with one of those tacos. Then we have fulfilled our duty by filling their belly, mind and heart:)

Judgement is the key here. We are not called to Judge but to serve. Let The One who is qualified be the Judge. It is not up to us to decide who is telling the truth and really in need. It is up to us to listen to the Spirit with an open and wiling heart so that we are ready to serve when called upon. Thanks for reminding me of that.

I have for many years taken King Benjamin's eloquent speech to heart. . . "are we not all beggars?" Do we not all depend on God for every breath we take, for all that we have and are?

God has not suffered that we have "begged in vain" therefore we will be in big trouble if we allow the beggars we come in contact to put their petition up to us in vain and not give of our substance. What they do with it is really not our concern. It is not our place to judge. But it is our place to give. I observed this recently in my husband's character as well. When we were in Italy he always made sure at the beginning of the day that he had plenty of coins in his pocket for the hands that would certainly be reached out to him that day.

This past weekend my parents and siblings and I were in the Bay area to attend a memorial and ash depositing in the Pacific Ocean near santa Cruz, of my younger brothers recently passed away wife. That was a marvelous time for our family given the circumstances. During the stay my sisters and I were able to catch saturdays general conference at our childhood church house. There in the cultural hall were four tables full of bread gleaned by our beloved sister Faerber. She has been gleaning longer than I have been alive I suppose. She inherited an immense source of wealth yet she goes about taking the unwanted scraps(gourmet breads and the like)and deposits them were those that are trying to be like Jesus can benefit there by. May we be more like Jesus or at least like Sister Faerber. I brought a loaf of the sacred bread to tell my wife the story. May God bless us in all our efforts to be more Christlike where ever we may be.
